3/18/2009Gov. Rell Takes Action on AIG Bonuses
  Governor Rell ordered Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr. to investigate the bonuses given out by AIG to determine if the bonuses can be voided under the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act (CUTPA). Governor Rell directed Commissioner Farrell to subpoena the employment contracts that AIG has cited to justify the bonuses.

My proposal makes this offense a Class D felony for the first offense, a Class C felony for the second offense and a Class B felony for any further offenses."

  Governor M. Jodi Rell and the co-Chairs of the Legislature’s Banks Committee – Senator Bob Duff and Representative Ryan P. Barry – today announced they have reached agreement on legislation that would make mediation a mandatory part of all real estate foreclosures in Connecticut, a move that could sharply reduce the number of borrowers losing their homes.

  According to the Governor, the 13 weeks are in addition to the 26 weeks of state benefits and the 33 weeks of federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC-08) currently being provided to the state’s jobless residents.

  The project consists of a new aircraft hangar, classrooms and trade shops. Aero Tech is a two-year, post-high school, aviation maintenance technician program offering training for Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant Certification. Aero Tech graduates are employed by aviation companies throughout the state.

3/4/2009Gov. Rell: Bill Would Strengthen Penalties for Intoxicated Boaters in Fatal Crashes
  Under current law, killing someone while boating under the influence is punishable by up to two years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000 – far lower than the penalties typically applied for similar cases involving automobiles. Under the Governor’s proposal, second-degree manslaughter with a vessel would be punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

  Under the Governor’s bill, the current Department of Social Services will continue to operate the state’s services for senior citizens until the new Department on Aging is fully operational. Once the new agency is up and running, it will take responsibility for the existing network of services, regional administration and funding allocated under the Older Americans Act.

  “Connecticut Studios is a project that could provide immediate and sustained economic benefits to South Windsor and to the State of Connecticut. Between the studio facilities and commercial/retail development on the site, the total project investment will be approximately $65 million dollars and will create more than 500 construction jobs, 114 permanent jobs and – based upon the level of film production – up to 1,500 studio production jobs on an annual basis.”

  Governor Rell announced that Treasurer Denise Nappier has written her to caution that because of the slumping national economy there is a possibility the state could face a cash flow problem later this year. In response to the Treasurer’s letter, Governor Rell is considering a range of options to ensure Connecticut will continue meeting its financial obligations.
