11/12/2009Gov. Rell Launches Holiday ‘Care & Share’ Drive to Support Food Pantries
  The Care & Share campaign will run from November 12 through December 11. Non-perishable food donations can be dropped off on December 11 between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the Oak Street and Capitol Avenue parking lot.

  Gov. Rell said that pediatric Tamiflu is being delivered today to 17 acute care hospitals that have pediatric treatment programs and 12 community health clinics, which treat underserved populations in the state.   Governor Rell announced that federal stimulus funds coming to Connecticut will enable state domestic violence shelters to stay open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
 
11/6/2009Governor Rell: State Exploring Prison Consolidation
  According to the DOC, the inmate population is currently about 18,500, down from a record high of nearly 19,900 in February 2008. The agency attributed the decrease, in part, to the success of some re-entry programs that allow offenders to return to productive lives and the stepped up pace of the now full-time parole board.

  Governor Rell today ordered U.S. and State of Connecticut flags flown at half-staff until sundown on Tuesday, November 10, in memory of the victims of Thursday’s shootings at Fort Hood. The order follows the announcement by President Obama that U.S. flags are to be flown at half-staff for the same period.

  Reserve and National Guard service members and their families can initiate counseling assistance through the Military Support Program’s 24/7 Call Line at 1-866-251-2913. Rell today has asked the state Department of Public Health for an inventory of anti-viral medication in Connecticut and is urging federal health officials to immediately release a second round of anti-viral medication from the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS).

  Governor Rell today demonstrated major upgrades in Connecticut’s “Megan’s Law” sex offender registry, debuting an updated site that is far easier to for parents to use to protect their children and offers exciting enhancements such as interactive maps and the ability to e-mail notifications to friends and neighbors. The registry can be accessed by visiting www.ct.gov/dps and clicking "Sex Offender Registry" on the left side of the website.
