Internship Opportunities

Would you like to learn more about the inner workings of State Government and a variety of career fields?  The Office of Policy and Management (OPM) offers unpaid student internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students during each semester (Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer).

OPM functions as the Governorís staff agency and plays a central role in state government, providing the information and analysis used to formulate public policy for the State.  The agency is headed by a Secretary and Deputy Secretary; and has 7 divisions which report to the Office of the Secretary:

  1. Budget and Financial Management
  2. Criminal Justice Policy and Planning
  3. Office of Finance
  4. Intergovernmental Policy
  5. Office of Labor Relations
  6. Policy Development and Planning
  7. Administration (which includes Human Resources, Business Operations, Accounting/Audit and Information Systems Support)

Legal and legislative liaison functions are included under the Office of the Secretary.

As the Governorís staff agency, OPM plays several critical roles; among them are:

  • Preparing the Governorís budget proposal and implementing the execution of the budget as adopted by the General Assembly
  • Analyzing and assessing the financial, programmatic, and legislative proposals of State agencies, the General Assembly, and the federal government
  • Coordinating/leading interagency problem-solving efforts

In addition, OPM is responsible for the administration of grant programs, staffing committees and boards, and authoring key publications and reports.
