{Teen Conservation Ambassador and Teacher on Trail}

Among the greatest qualities of children and youth is their boundless energy, enthusiasm, and optimism. When they find something they care about, they shift all three attributes into high gear. Do you know a youth or teen with passion for the environment? Help them direct that passion into action through the Connecticut Forest & Park Association’s (CFPA) 2015 Conservation Ambassador program.

CFPA is inviting youth (entering grades 4-7) and teens to become Junior and Teen Conservation Ambassadors through a two-day program this summer. This is a great opportunity for youth who want to do something positive for their local environment, get connected to the land, and share their knowledge and concern for the outdoors with others. Watch for birds of the forest as they hide from predators during the day or search for food. Get mucky in the vernal pools and swamps searching for frogs and other swamp things. Learn about the invasive plants that readily take over Connecticut’s woods and how to help curtail their spread. Discover some foundations of natural history and ecosystem services. Get ready to take to the trails and make a positive difference in the environment. All you need is a sense of wonder, interest in sharing and connecting, and to be ready to explore.

{Junior Conservation Ambassadors in Group Exercise}

All three session options will be taught by Lynn Kochiss—a retired certified teacher and founding advisor of an elementary school Earth Club.

Registration fee is $60 nonmembers, $40 CFPA members. Registration deadline: June 24, 2015 for Junior program, June 25, 2015 for Teen program. No day—of registrations will be accepted. For more details and to register, visit the program web page at
