Green Street Arts Center of Wesleyan University offers a huge diversity of classes for kids of all ages  - and parents, too!

Summer events and classes at Green Street include some phenomenal choices, such as African Drum and Dance, Yoga, and Family Tuesdays.  Green Street also offers a 5-week Art and Science Summer Academy for students entering grades 1-5.  Students participating in the program can expect to perform some very cool experiments; see some great sights in Middletown from a scientist’s perspective; learn the connections between dance and science, math and music; and create artwork based on their newfound knowledge!

After School Program
The After School Arts and Science Program offers classes in Videography, Sound Recording and a Peer Education Performance Project for students in Grades 6-12, and classes in African Drumming, Breakdance, Songwriting, Visual Arts, Hip Hop, Comic Book Creation, and much more for all grades.  A special Academic Enrichment hour offers students the opportunity to receive homework help and to work on additional academic exercises to strengthen their skills.  Green Street is also the site for Wesleyan University’s participation in the Help Yourself Academy – a unique program for at-risk students in grades 3 and 4 to explore science in twice weekly experimentation sessions.

Early Childhood
Green Street offers a variety of early childhood classes for parents and kids to explore their creativity together. Families are invited to take classes in movement, music, and visual arts which provide new activities and skills that you can take home and share.

Just For Parents
Also available are programs just for parents, such as “How to Talk so Kids Will Listen”, a collaboration between Green Street and the Family Wellness Center of Middletown.  Additionally, parents can unwind and explore their own creative and artistic passions at Green Street’s great events and evening classes (http://www.wesleyan.edu/greenstreet/events.html).

Mission
Green Street Arts Center of Wesleyan University enables the community to embrace diversity and foster creativity through the collaboration of individuals.

Vision
The greatest asset and most unique quality of the Green Street Arts Center of Wesleyan University is that it has grown from a collaborative spirit of the University, the City of Middletown, the North End Action Team and other stakeholders who recognized that their community could rise up and become a beacon of change.

Located in Middletown’s historic North End, Green Street is a gathering place for people from all walks and stages of life to come together and share in the common theme of the arts.

Utilizing the arts, Green Street enable community, youth, students, faculty and staff to converge in one special place, a place that encourages us all to learn more about the world we share and to appreciate people’s differences and similarities, respecting who we are as individuals.
