Martin, State of Connecticut Military Department, and Governor Rell cut the ribbon to dedicate the new Niantic Readiness Center. The new Niantic Readiness Center was built to provide the 192nd Military Police Battalion and 85th Troop Command with ample space for present and future training duties and modern office space for administrative functions.

On February 19, the New York Yankees’ World Series trophy made a stop at the State Capitol in Hartford.  The trophy was on display in the State Capitol building from several hours, and thousands of people took photographs with the trophy and visited with members of the Yankees’ front office.  In her State Capitol office, Governor Rell holds the New York Yankees’ World Series trophy.

On June 13, Governor Rell visited the 2008 Healing Field of Honor in Hartford’s Bushnell Park.   This living display of over 800 U.S. flags, sponsored by the American Legion of Connecticut and the Colonial Flag Foundation, flies as a patriotic tribute to the strength and unity of Americans.

On June 11, Gov. Rell signed into law legislation aimed at improving the quality of Connecticut’s health care system and addressing the state’s nursing shortage. Under the bill, each licensed hospital in Connecticut will be required to provide the state Department of Public Health with a prospective nurse staffing plan by July 1, 2009.
