"Dads Matter Too" 5k Road Race - 2013
  The Department of Social Services, Department of Children and Families and the City of Waterbury co-sponsored the second annual Fatherhood Awareness Day 5K Race, 1 Mile Walk and kids fun run entitled “ Dads Matter Too”. The event focused on raising the awareness on the importance of fathers in the lives of their children and in our society. The event was held on Sunday, September 20, 2013 at Library Park in Waterbury. The day featured food, beverages, family friendly activities, face painting, games, vendors, resource booths for fathers and families, giveaways and live entertainment.

 DSS Certification for Fatherhood Programs
  On Tuesday, December 9, 2014, the Department of Social Services (DSS) held an informational session on the process for becoming a DSS certified Fatherhood Program at the United Way of Greater New Haven. The session offered general information to those programs interested in the opportunity to strengthen their program’s ability to provide quality services to fathers and their families, as well as an opportunity for interested programs to interact with current DSS certified fatherhood programs and participate in a Question and Answer session.

  The 2nd Annual New York Fathering Conference: “Taking Care of Business Equipping Dads for Parenting, Employment and Wellness” will be held on April 5, 2016 at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, New York. The goal of the conference is to inspire, educate and challenge attendees to improve services and programs for fathers, particularly in the areas of parenting, employment and wellness.

  Connecticut will be hosting the 17th Annual New England Fathering Conference (NEFC) at the Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa in Groton, CT on March 16-18, 2016. The NEFC Planning Committee is searching for professionals who work in the fatherhood field and would like to share their expertise and experience to enhance our work and expand interstate networks.
 DSS convenes a “special session” of the Connecticut Fatherhood Advisory Council
  On December 9, 2015 DSS convened a “special session” of the Connecticut Fatherhood Advisory Council at the DSS Central Office located at 55 Farmington Ave in Hartford to launch the Connecticut Fatherhood Initiative’s Strategic Plan and the DSS Fatherhood Program Certification Ceremony.

 Fill – A- Truck Toy Campaign
  The DSS Office of Child Support Services (OCSS) in collaboration with the Fatherhood Initiative of Connecticut launched its first “Fill –A – Truck” Toy Campaign on Friday, November 18th, 2016. The mission of the campaign was to collect unwrapped toys, books, clothing and other gifts for families in need, to help brighten the holiday season for children. The campaign concluded on Friday, December 16, 2016 and proved to be a huge success as OCSS staff in nine offices statewide (including Central Office) collected a countless bounty toys and other gifts. All toys collected were distributed to DSS Certified Fatherhood Programs across the statewide, so that those fathers and/or mothers who are participating in programming were able to give their child(ren) a gift this holiday season. Thank you to the OCSS staff who spearheaded the effort in each of the offices and a very special Thank You to DSS staff statewide for your kindness and generosity in helping to make this holiday season special for those in need in our communities.  5th Annual Dads Matter Too Community Awareness Day and 5k Road Race
  On September 16, 2017 the Department of Children and Families, Region 5 Fatherhood Engagement Leadership Team (F.E.L.T) will host the 5th Annual Dads Matter Too Community Awareness Day and 5k Road Race at Library Park in Waterbury. The event will benefit the children and families we all work with every day. The presence of an active engaged father is critical to the growth of all children. In many cases fathers are not always recognized to the same degree as mothers despite the fact that they are equally important. This is s day to recognize and highlight that Dads Matter Too!
