New Parking Enforcement at West Haven Rail Station Set to Begin on Monday, May 6, 2019
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing a new parking enforcement initiative at the West Haven Train Station. Beginning this week, drivers parked in the 660-space lot will receive notification of the new, pending enforcement activity via a windshield flyer and variable message signs, reminding users that payment is required to park a vehicle. Then, beginning on Monday, May 6, 2019, drivers that do not display a valid parking permit or pay the $6 daily parking fee will be subject to a penalty of $25 per day. Paid parking will be enforced Monday through Friday, between 5 AM and 5 PM. Repeat violators will be subject to towing upon $250 of accumulated unpaid parking violations.
“Our intent is to ensure customers have reliable parking so they can access New Haven Line train service,” said CTDOT Commissioner Joseph J. Giulietti. “As the parking lot approaches capacity, we’ve seen too many daily parkers breaking the rules. Beginning on Monday, May 6, we are going to start and sustain enforcement activity so that no one can abuse or take advantage of the system.”
“The Department of Transportation will have ambassadors on hand on May 6 and May 7 to assist customers and answer questions,” commented Richard W. Andreski, Bureau Chief Public Transportation. “We will be present to both help customers with parking kiosks and to make sure customers remember that enforcement is underway.”
With daily parking spaces in limited supply, regular customers of West Haven Station are encouraged to purchase a 6-month parking permit for $300. Parking at the station will remain free on weekdays between the hours of 5 PM and 5 AM, as well as on weekends and major holidays.
Daily parking can be paid using cash, credit or debit at the parking payment kiosks located adjacent to the station building. To inquire about the 6-month permit, please visit www.ctrides.com/parking
or call 1-877-CTRIDES. Signs detailing the parking enforcement policy, including maximum penalties and towing information, will be located in the outdoor display cases on both sides of the station.
