With summer activities kicking into high gear in Hartford, the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is reminding people that taking the train or the bus may their best option to enjoy the events with friends and family conveniently without driving and parking in the capital city.
Many events are occurring the weekend of Saturday, July 13th, at venues across the city. These include the fireworks and food trucks at Mortensen Riverfront Plaza, ConnectiCon at the Connecticut Convention Center, Wiz Khalifa at Xfinity Theater, Cirque de Soleil at Market Street, Yard Goats baseball at Dunkin Donuts Park and Hartford Athletic soccer at Dillon Stadium. Traffic congestion is anticipated, and taking the train or bus to these events is recommended.
Additional late night service is being added to the regular CTrail Hartford Line weekend train schedule. Hartford Line trains normally run until around 10:30 pm on the weekend, but after midnight on Saturday, July 13th, a special southbound train, serving Berlin, Meriden, Wallingford, State Street New Haven and New Haven Union Station has been added at 12:20 am. Northbound late night service to Windsor, Windsor Locks and Springfield stations will be provided by buses departing Hartford Union Station at 11:15 pm and 12:00 midnight. CTrail and CTDOT staff will be at Hartford Union Station to assist passengers. Weekend parking is free at Windsor Locks, Windsor, Berlin, Meriden and Wallingford stations. Fares to Hartford range from $3 to $8, with significant discounts for children under 12, seniors and people with disabilities.
CTfastrak bus rapid transit will operate on the regular schedule, with frequent service all day and late night service until 12:45 am every weekday and on Saturdays. Sunday service ends at 8:40 pm. Free parking is available at all stations that offer parking, including at New Britain’s downtown Szczesny municipal parking garage when you show your CTfastrak ticket upon exit. Parking is also free at CTfastrak park and ride stops in Waterbury, Cheshire, Southington, Bristol and Manchester. Fares start at just $1.75 for most service and cost up to $5.00 for express service from Waterbury to Hartford.
CTfastrak Route 160 will begin operating special service to Dillon Stadium in Hartford’s south end for all Hartford Athletic home soccer matches, starting with the first at Dillon scheduled for July 13th. The limited-stop service will connect the Sigourney Street CTfastrak station, Hartford Union Station, and downtown Hartford to the new stadium. Standard fares apply. Customers are encouraged to purchase an All-Day Pass (may be purchased on the bus) for easy transfers from CTfastrak or any other CTtransit route, as well as their return trip following the match.
CTtransit’s DASH free circulator bus in downtown will be operating extended hours from July 11th through July 14th. This shuttle operates between Union Station, downtown parking garages, hotels and the Convention Center every 15 minutes. An additional shuttle serving several East Hartford hotels will also be operating every 20 minutes the weekend of July 13-14.
