Bike Racks Installed on Hartford Line Trains

{Hartford Line Bike Rack}

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) today announced that bicycle racks have been installed on all CTrail Hartford Line trains and are actively in use.

CTDOT Commissioner Joe Giulietti said, “I am happy to announce the installation and use of bike racks on Hartford Line trains well in advance of National Bike Month in May, and Bike to Work Day on May 17th.   Multi-modal travel serves not only the bike rider, but our state’s environmental goals.”

Bike racks are first come, first served and hold up to four bicycles on every equipped car; with three-car trainsets having two racks able to carry eight bicycles, and four-car trainsets having three racks able to carry 12 bicycles.  Passengers with bicycles can use the permanently affixed bungee cords to secure their bike to the rack.

CTrail Hartford Line train crews have reported that the initial feedback has been positive, with passengers expressing appreciation that they can relax and enjoy the convenient ride with their bike safely stowed.
