9/20/2018Free Transportation for Veterans for Stand Down 2018 Event
  The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) announced today that Connecticut military veterans can take advantage of free transportation to and from the Stand Down event on Friday, September 21, 2018 in Rocky Hill. CTDOT is coordinating the free transportation effort through CTtransit and transit districts throughout the state. Five of the CTtransit bus operators that will be providing bus service to the event are also veterans and will attend the event.
 
9/18/2018Connecticut Department of Transportation Announces Steps to Help CTrail Shore Line East Customers
  The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) today announced that it is taking several steps to improve communication with CTrail Shore Line East (SLE) rail customers and the reliability of the aging SLE rail fleet. As a result of an Amtrak construction project and the ongoing rehabilitation of locomotives, the service has not been operating at levels customers have come to expect.

  The Connecticut Department of Transportation will hold a public information meeting on October 17, 2018, in Norwalk regarding the installation of security cameras at railroad stations in Norwalk, Darien and Westport.
 
9/12/2018TRACK ONE PLATFORM AT WINDSOR STATION TO BE TEMPORARILY CLOSED THROUGH SEPTEMBER 24TH TO ACCOMMODATE TRACK CONSTRUCTION
  Beginning on Friday, September 14 at 12 a.m., the track one platform at Windsor Station will be temporarily closed to accommodate track construction in the station area. As point of reference, the track one platform is closest to the historic station building.
 
9/12/2018Science Road Railroad Crossing in Norwalk to be Replaced Weekend of September 14-17
  The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the Walk Bridge Program will replace the railroad crossing on Science Road during the weekend of September 14-17. Buses will substitute for trains on the Danbury Branch during this weekend, as a track outage is necessary to complete this work. Work is anticipated to occur continuously during daytime and nighttime hours, starting at 4:00 PM on Friday, September 14 and ending by 5:00 AM the morning of Monday, September 17.
 
9/11/2018Weekend Shuttle Service To The Big E For CTrail Hartford Line Passengers
  The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced today the availability of a free weekend shuttle bus for CTrail Hartford Line passengers traveling to the Big E in West Springfield, Massachusetts.
 
9/4/2018Buses will Transport Hartford Line Passengers this Weekend between Hartford and Springfield
  Beginning at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, September 7, CTrail Hartford Line and Amtrak rail service between Hartford and Springfield will be served by buses. This will allow workers to complete installation of the final section of double track between Hartford and Windsor. Buses will continue to transport passengers on this portion of the Hartford Line corridor until 5:00 a.m. on Monday, September 10.
 
9/4/2018Construction Update: Town of Windsor – Railroad Crossing Activity
  Beginning on Thursday, September 6th at 6:00 a.m. and continuing through Tuesday, September 11th at 6:00 p.m. the existing Central Street railroad crossing in Windsor will be closed to through traffic to allow for improvements to the crossing.
 
8/29/2018Paid Parking To Begin Sept. 4 at Berlin, Meriden and Wallingford Train Stations
  The Connecticut Department of Transportation today announced that on Tuesday, September 4th, it will end its free parking promotion and begin paid parking at the CTrail Hartford Line stations in Berlin, Meriden and Wallingford.
 
8/20/2018GOV. MALLOY ANNOUNCES IMMINENT COMPLETION OF I-84 WIDENING PROJECT IN WATERBURY
  (HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced the imminent completion of the I-84 widening project in Waterbury, with three eastbound lanes opening this week, and the three westbound lanes opening by mid-September – one year early.

  Connecticut Department of Transportation’s (CTDOT) Public Transportation Chief Richard Andreski today announced that CTrail Hartford Line trains will allow bicycles on board beginning Thursday, August 16.
 
8/10/2018CTDOT Announces Opening of Restrooms on CTrail Trains
  (HARTFORD, CT) – The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) today announced the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has reserved its mandate requiring that all restrooms on CTrail Hartford Line trains be closed while they are in the process of being modified to meet accessibility standards for persons with mobility impairments. As a result, CTDOT will open the restrooms for passengers’ use beginning on Monday, August 13.

  An archaeological investigation associated with the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s Walk Bridge Program in Norwalk recently uncovered a Contact Period Native American fort site, along with several thousand artifacts of varying age.

  The Connecticut Department of Transportation has created a "Project Advisory Committee" for input and guidance as the project to rebuild Route 136-Cribari Bridge in Westport advances.
 
6/15/2018GOV. MALLOY ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF THE HARTFORD LINE, PROVIDING FREQUENT RAIL SERVICE IN THE CENTRAL CONNECTICUT CORRIDOR
  – Governor Dannel P. Malloy today joined dozens of federal, state, and local officials, and Connecticut commuters to officially launch the CTrail Hartford Line for service. The passenger rail line, which has multiple stations in Central Connecticut along the I-91 corridor connecting New Haven, Hartford, and Springfield, is the first passenger rail line to open for service in Connecticut since 1990.
 
6/12/2018CTDOT RESPONDS TO CHANGE IN FRA RESTROOM POLICY
  The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) today responded to new direction from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) this week which will require restrooms on half of the CT rail Hartford Line trains to be closed temporarily until they can be retrofitted to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, which will be completed in early 2019.
 
6/6/2018AMTRAK RUNS TEST TRAINS OF UP TO 110 MPH IN PREPARATION FOR THE LAUNCH OF THE HARTFORD LINE
  As the final preparations for the launch of the Hartford Line are underway, the Connecticut Department of Transportation today announced that Amtrak has successfully completed testing trains at speeds up to 110 mph along portions of the Hartford Line corridor, which extends from New Haven to Springfield.

  The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that during the weekends of June 8-10 and June 15-17, the Walk Bridge Program will start the first half of the Ann Street Railroad Bridge superstructure replacement in Norwalk. Buses will be substituted for trains during those weekends.

5/16/2018Farmington Canal Bike & Pedestrian Trail Opens
  Officials from the Town of Farmington, the Connecticut Department of Transportation, regional bicycle and pedestrian advocates and other officials today formally opened the Farmington Canal Heritage Greenway (FCHG) – a 2.4-mile paved, off-road multi-use trail along a former railroad bed that completes the FCHG in Farmington and another link in the East Coast Greenway through Connecticut.
 
5/16/2018Roadside Herbicide Spraying Program to Begin
  The Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a roadside herbicide spraying program from June 1st through August 31st 2018 along Interstates 84, 91, 95, 384, 395, 691 and all other divided highways and secondary roads in accordance with the Department’s Vegetation Management Guidelines.

5/7/2018Walk Bridge Program Public Information Meeting in Norwalk Rescheduled
  Because of a conflict with another meeting, the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that the Walk Bridge Public Information Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 22, 2018 has been rescheduled to June 5, 2018 at Norwalk City Hall’s Concert Hall.
 
4/30/2018FIRST ANNUAL CTrides DRIVE LESS CONNECTICUT MONTH IS ANNOUNCED
  Governor Dannel P. Malloy has officially proclaimed May 2018 as CTrides Drive Less Connecticut month in the state of Connecticut. CTrides is a program of the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) focused on reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality. During the entire month of May, CTDOT invites Connecticut commuters to try choice commuting modes such as bus, rail, carpooling or vanpooling, biking, walking, and teleworking.

3/22/2018Waterbury Branch Rail Line Weekend Service Suspension
  The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) and Metro-North Railroad will be performing critical maintenance work on the Devon Bridge, which carries the New Haven Line over the Housatonic River between Milford and Stratford, during the following weekends: March 24-25, April 7-8, April 14-15, April 21-22, April 28-29, May 5-6, May 12-13, and May 19-20. Buses will provide service on these weekends.

3/19/2018Weight Restrictions Imposed for Cribari Bridge (Route 136) in Westport
  The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) today announced a 20-ton vehicle weight restriction for the William F. Cribari Memorial Bridge, the historic swing bridge carrying Route 136 over the Saugatuck River in Westport. The decision to impose the restrictions – beginning Tuesday, March 20, 2018 – was the result of the ongoing structural engineering evaluation and inspection of the load capacity of the 19th Century truss bridge.

  On February 27, 2018, the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will open a Walk Bridge Welcome Center. The Welcome Center, located on the first floor of the Lock Building at 20 Marshall Street in South Norwalk will serve as a central location for the Norwalk community to engage with the Walk Bridge Program: The Walk Bridge Replacement, CP243 Interlocking, and Danbury Branch Dockyard Projects.

1/31/2018GOV. MALLOY OUTLINES PROPOSAL TO STABILIZE SPECIAL TRANSPORTATION FUND
  Governor Dannel P. Malloy today released the outline of his administration’s revenue package to stabilize the Special Transportation Fund (STF) and allow for critical investments in the state’s transportation system to take place. Implementation of the administration’s plan for the STF would restore canceled state and municipal projects across Connecticut, and would prevent drastic increases in rail and bus fares and major service reductions on Metro-North, Shore Line East, and CTtransit bus services.
 
1/30/2018CTDOT Announces Public Hearings on Proposed Fare Increases and Service Reductions
  The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) today announced a series of seven public hearings to gather input on proposed bus and rail fare increases and service reductions. If approved, a rail fare increase would take effect in three phases – 10 percent on July 1, 2018, 5 percent on July 1, 2020, and 5 percent on July 1, 2021, for a cumulative total of 21.28 percent. A 14.3 percent, or 25-cent, bus fare increase would take effect on July 1, 2018.

1/19/2018Weekend Traffic Notice Regarding Route 82 in East Haddam at the East Haddam Swing Bridge
  The CTDOT is announcing that on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at a yet to be determined time, the East Haddam Swing Bridge carrying route 82 across the Connecticut River, will be moved into the open position to allow for the passage of US Coast Guard ice-breaking vessels around and to points north on the river. The bridge will remain in the open position for several hours and there will be no motor vehicle traffic across the river during this timeframe.

1/10/2018GOV. MALLOY, CTDOT INDEFINITELY POSTPONE HUNDREDS OF TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS ACROSS CONNECTICUT
  Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Commissioner James P. Redeker today released a full list of projects totaling $4.3 billion that are postponed indefinitely until new revenue is appropriated for the Special Transportation Fund (STF). The Governor made clear that his administration will announce detailed proposals this month that, if adopted by the General Assembly, would bring the projects back online.

  CTtransit express bus service will be suspended due to worsening winter storm conditions. The last express buses from Hartford will depart at 12:20 pm. The last express bus from Waterbury to Hartford will depart at 12:10 pm and the last express bus from Storrs to Hartford will depart at 1:46 pm. Express bus service will remain suspended for the remainder of today. CTfastrak and CTtransit local bus service will continue to operate with snow detours in effect.
