NEW SCUP RECREATIONAL FISHING MEASURES FOR 2019

At the Winter Meeting of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s Summer Flounder, Scup and Black Sea Bass Management Board, the Board approved minor changes to recreational scup measures for the “northern region” states of Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.
 
Changes from 2018 measures for all four states include:

1) Open season year-round (season previously closed January 1 – April 30);
2) For-hire bonus possession limit increased from 45 to 50 fish.
 
The 2019 recreational scup measures for Connecticut are:
 
 Open season year-round (effective 4/16/2019)
 Minimum size: 9 inches
 Creel limit: 30 fish

For paying passengers on registered party or charter fishing vessels:

 Bonus season: September 1 – October 31
 Minimum size: 9 inches
 Creel Limit: 50 fish
 
For shore anglers fishing at Enhanced Shore Opportunity Sites:

 Minimum size: 8 inches
