DEEP: ASMFC Lobster Management Area 6 Lobster Conservation Management Team Meeting

ASMFC Lobster Management Area 6

Lobster Conservation Management Team Meeting

Wednesday, May 17, 2017

On May 8 and May 9, 2017 the ASMFC American Lobster Management Board will be meeting to address draft Addendum XXV to the American Lobster Fishery Management Plan. The draft addendum proposes a suite of management measures designed to increase egg production in the Southern New England lobster stock. As discussed at an informational meeting and two ASMFC Public Hearings held in CT on the draft addendum, an increase in egg production, if decided on during the Management Board meeting in May, must come from the management options outlined in the draft addendum. These include change(s) in the minimum and/or maximum gauge size, closed season(s), trap reductions or a combination thereof and should be consistent throughout each Lobster Management Area. To assure consistency between New York and Connecticut waters in LMA 6, a meeting of the Area 6 Lobster Conservation Management Team has been scheduled for:

1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Wednesday, May 17, 2017

State of NYS DEC Division of Marine Resources Office

205 Belle Meade Road

East Setauket, New York

As a reminder, Lobster Conservation Management Teams were created in 1997 under Amendment 3 of the ASMFC Lobster Management Plan to serve in an Advisory Panel capacity to the Board and to provide a mechanism to achieve consistency in management measures throughout each LMA. LMA 6 includes all of Long Island Sound and New York waters of Block Island Sound. LCMT 6 includes fishermen from both New York and Connecticut. All fishermen and interested members of the public are welcome to attend.
