DEEP: Notice to Commercial Fishermen Summer Flounder Fishery Closure

Notice to Commercial Fishermen

Summer Flounder Fishery Closure

August 8, 2006

Effective 0001 hours Saturday, August 12, 2006 the Connecticut possession limit for the commercial harvest of summer flounder will be reduced to zero pounds. No commercial license holder shall possess and no vessel shall land or have on board summer flounder after this date for the remainder of 2006.

The DEP estimates that 100% of the annual commercial summer flounder quota allocated to Connecticut for 2006 will be landed by August 12. The summer flounder fishery management plan of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission and State regulations require that landings be prohibited when 100% of the state quota has been landed.

The DEP adjusts trip limits according to state regulations in an attempt to provide fishing opportunity throughout the year for all participants in the commercial fishery. In addition, the Department strives to provide advance notification of trip limit changes.
