DEEP: Notice to Commercial Summer Flounder Fishermen

Notice to Commercial Summer Flounder Fishermen

January 11, 2007

The DEP recently implemented changes to commercial fishery summer flounder possession limits. Fishermen were notified of these changes in a previous notice to fishermen. One of the provisions limits vessels to two trips per week from January 22 until 45% of the quota has been landed. To ensure compliance with this measure, the Marine Fisheries Division and DEP Environmental Police have developed a call in system. Beginning on January 22, prior to departing on any trip in which summer flounder will be possessed, fishermen must notify DEP Environmental Police Dispatch of:

∑ Vessel name

∑ Captainís name

∑ Departure date and time

∑ Estimated return date and time

∑ Connecticut port of landing

There are two methods you can use to notify the dispatch office. The first is to call 860.424.3503, the other is to fax the information to 860.424.4069.

For further information, contact the DEP Marine Fisheries Division between the hours of 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
