Notice to Recreational Fishermen

Declaration of Regulation Change

April 19, 2006

Under authority of Section 26-159a of the Connecticut General Statutes and Section 26-159a-22 of the Regulations of Connecticut State Agencies, the Commissioner of Environmental Protection is authorized to establish or adjust, by declaration, closed seasons, length limits, creel limits, trip limits and trip limit adjustment values in order to comply with interstate fishery management plans adopted by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission. Such changes are implemented after a 10-day notice period.

In accordance with the aforementioned authority, the following recreational fishing regulations will be effective on April 30, 2006.

Recreational Fishery Rules

  • Summer Flounder:
    • Open season: April 30 through December 31
    • Minimum length: 18 inches total length
    • Creel limit: 6 fish per person per day
  • Scup
    • Open season: June 1 through October 31
    • Minimum length: 10- inches total length
    • Creel limit: 25 fish per person per day (Party / charter boat passengers can keep 60 fish per day from September 1 through October 31)
  • Black Sea Bass:
    • Open season: Year round
    • Minimum length: 12 inches total length
    • Creel limit: 25 fish per person per day

A public hearing will be held within the next four months to receive comment and adopt final regulations regarding these changes or alternatives that have equivalent or greater conservation value.
