BATHING AND PERSONAL CARE
 
This Safety Alert is to bring to your immediate attention, concerns relative to bathing and personal care of individuals. You are required to review agency protocols and procedures for every individual and ensure that these policies and procedures address individuals’ assessed needs and supports during bathing and personal care. These policies and procedures shall address bathing and use of tubs, showers, and special bathing equipment. Agency protocols and procedures shall also include a process for inspection and proper maintenance of all equipment, documentation of which shall be available on-site of the service location.
 
Additionally, you shall ensure that all staff are trained in individual programs, techniques and the use of all required special or adaptive equipment and devices. Verification of training and implementation shall be documented and available on-site of the service location.
 
Finally, individuals’ support needs shall be updated whenever one’s support needs change, or at least annually.
