MINUTES

MEMBERSHIP AND SUPPORT COMMITTEE

SEPTEMBER 4, 2012

Office of Protection and Advocacy, Hartford

 

 

Present: Jacqueline Jamison; Michelle Johnson, Vice-Chair; Sabra Mayo, Chair; Ada Suarez (Pending)

Excused: John Curtin and Sarah Rafala

Staff:  Mary-Ann Langton, Disability Policy Specialist

Personal Assistant: Peggy Johnson


1.  Introduction of the Members

Ms. Mayo began the meeting at 10:59 a.m. by welcoming the members.

2.  Approval of Minutes

Ms. Jamison made a motion to approve the minutes from the meeting of August 27, 2012.  Ms. Johnson seconded.  The motion was unanimously passed.

3. New Business

Interview:   The committee interviewed Ms. Margaret McDermott for the term of an individual living or having lived in a nursing home for the Council.   Members thought Ms. McDermott would make an excellent council member because she has previously held leadership positions on committees and/or boards. Ms. Johnson also noted that Ms. McDermott had reflected on the interview questions before answering them. Ms. Mayo made a motion to nominate Ms. McDermott to the council.  Ms. Jamison seconded, and the motion was unanimously passed.

Ms. Langton reported that the Council will have its overnight retreat on Monday, October 15, 2012 and Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at the Sheraton Four Points Inn in Meriden, CT.   Before the retreat begins, there will be an orientation for new members. Veteran members are encouraged to attend the orientation

for a refresher about the council.   Ms. Mayo requested that Ms. Cole send more details about the retreat to Council members.

Ms. Mayo made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 11:28 a.m.  Ms. Johnson seconded.  The motion was unanimously passed.
