 FINAL MINUTES

MEMBERSHIP AND SUPPORT COMMITTEE

MAY 21, 2012

Office of Protection and Advocacy, Hartford

 

 

Present: Jacqueline Jamison; Michelle Johnson,Vice-Chair; Sarah Rafala; Frank Reed; Ada Suarez (Pending)

Excused: John Curtin and Sabra Mayo, Chair; Rhonda Kempton (Pending)

Staff: Molly Cole, Director; and Mary-Ann Langton, Disability Policy Specialist


1. Approval of Minutes

Ms. Johnson began the Membership and Support Committee Meeting at 10:40 a.m.  Ms. Jamison made a motion to approve the minutes of the April 9, 2012 meeting.  Ms. Rafala seconded the motion. The minutes were unanimously approved and accepted.  Ms. Cole explained the reason why Ms. Mayo was not in attendance.  She was at a meeting a SAND school in Hartford and was unable to leave  that building  because they were experiencing a lock-down.

 2. Old Business

Interview Questions:  Ms. Johnson assigned the interview questions to the committee members.

3. New Business

Interviews: The committee interviewed  Chris Burke, from SARAH-Tuxis Inc.,  a not-for-profit agency who has applied for membership  on the Council. After the interview, Ms. Langton asked the candidate to contact her with his references.  The committee members recommended that Chris Burke be appointed by the Governor to the Council on Developmental Disabilities.

 

4. Orientation

Ms. Cole reported on the consumer satisfaction surveys.  Comments indicated a high level of satisfaction with the orientation training.   Ms. Langton announced that the next orientation session will be on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at ITBD, New Britain.   Ms. Cole said invitations would be sent to new council members and emails will be sent to veteran council members to encourage their participation at the next orientation training.

5. Other 

Ms. Cole reported that the bill which would establish the Council into statute did not to get voted on by the senate.

Ms. Jamison made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 11:20 p.m.  Ms. Rafala seconded the motion.  The motion unanimously passed and the meeting was adjourned.
