3.  Review Appointments of the Council Members:  The committee discussed council members’ names to submit to the Governor for re-appointments pending the passage of new legislation establishing the Council.  After passage of the legislation, Council appointments will be vacated and new appointments of all members will need to be made.  Thus the committee has to prepare and send a list to the Governor The Committee will discuss re-appointments with each  current council member.  Since the Council already requested that the Governor remove one Council member Ms. Mayo made a motion to omit that person’s  name from the list that will be submitted to the Governor.   Ms. Rafala seconded.  The motion was passed unanimously.  Additionally, the names of those individuals whose terms are expiring in September will not be submitted for re-appointment.  With 24 slots under the new legislation, the council will have vacancies for one parent, one self-advocate and a person representing a non-profit agency.  Ms. Langton will contact the applicants who have sent in their membership applications to the Council Office during the last year.

The committee agreed to hold interviews on Monday, April 9, 2012.  Interviews will begin at 10 a.m. at the Office of Protection and Advocacy.   Ms. Langton will ask the applicants to bring three references to the interviews.

Mr. Reed requested that the committee stress the importance of attending council and committee meetings to the applicants.  Members agreed to ask three additional questions on the council’s membership application.  The questions will be 1) how do you handle disputes or disagreements? and 2) have you filed any lawsuits within the last five years? 3) what is your leadership style?  The staff will add these questions to the membership interview questions.

Ms.  Jamison made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Ms. Rafala seconded.  The motion was unanimously passed.

Respectfully Submitted,

Mary-Ann Langton
