Ms. Mayo began the Membership and Support Meeting at 9:15 a.m.

Mr. Curtin made a motion to approve the minutes of the July 22, 2010 meeting.  Ms. Rafala seconded and the motion was passed unanimously.

Ms. Mayo drew members’ attention to the DD requirement about the need to have certain state agency representatives on the Council.  Many agencies’ representatives are retiring from the Council as of September 30, 2011.  Due to a job change, one representative has resigned.  Ms. Langton will solicit new replacement possibilities from the needed agencies.

There was a discussion about decreasing the size of membership to 20 members.  After a discussion, the members unanimously voted not to decrease the membership size.  The Committee will re-appoint Steve Belske, Bill Knight, Ms. Kelly and Mr. Reed for their second term.  Unfortunately as of September 30, 2011, Ms. Baker and Ms. Tremarche will be retiring from the Council after serving their two terms.  Ms. Borre finished a previous council member term and needs to be appointed for serving her first term.  The terms of Ms. D’Angelo, Ms. Prior and Mr. Piehl are over and these vacant seats need to be filled.

The committee reviewed the possible applications that were sent to the Council Office.  Members discussed the importance of Council Members being diverse with people representing different developmental disabilities, ages, social economics and locations within CT.  In addition, members want to be sure that applicants have time to devote to Council, Committees meetings and task forces.  Ms. Cole agreed to call a few parent applicants to see if they have time to serve on the Council.  Ms. Langton agreed to put a posting seeking new Council Members on Facebook.

The Committee agreed to interview applicants on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 beginning at 10 a.m., to 2 p.m.  Interviews will be held at the Office of Protection and Advocacy in Hartford.

The committee unanimously adjourned the meeting at 10:18 a.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

Mary-Ann Langton

Disability Policy Specialist
