CT COUNCIL ON DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES

ADVOCACY, PUBLIC INFORMATION AND EDUCATION   

                                 COMMITTEE

                                     12-7-2010                   

 

PRESENT:  Joyce Baker, Darlene Bores, Michelle Johnson, Jennifer Lortie, Dwayne Paul and Frank Reed.

ABSENT:  Steve Beleske, Kathryn duPree, Stacey DíAngelo, Maryann Lombardi and Zuleika Martinez

GUESTS:  Guy Sullivan and Two Personal Assistants

Mr. Paul called the Advocacy, Public Information and Education (APIE) Committee Meeting to order on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 5:05 p.m. 

 

Mr. Reed made a motion to approve the May 18, 2010 minutes. Ms. Borres seconded   The vote was unanimously passed.  Mr. Reed made a motion to approve the October 26, 2010 minutes.  Ms. Borres seconded.  Ms. Lortie abstained, and the motion passed.

 

Mr. Paul gave an overview about the Marketing Plan and about the Councilís Site Visit with First Experience Communications (FEC).  FEC will complete their Public Marketing Plan by the end of February with a remainder of $16,000.  The committee brainstormed the best way to utilize these funds with FEC.  They suggested spending these funds by doing website enhancements by the following ways: (a) videos of people with developmental disabilities sharing stories (b) a video of possibly Ed Preneta, Executive Director, who is retiring from 32 years at the CT Council on Developmental Disabilities, (c) a video of how children with developmental disabilities transitioning to adults and then are in competitive employment, (e) a video of  parents going through an Individual Educational Plan and (f) a video with how to Prepare for a Natural Disaster  These video can be posted on the Councilís website, Face Book and YouTube,  Other ideas were (a) producing a bi-yearly newsletter, (b) assist the Councilís Legislative agenda and (c) print materials for people who do not have internet access. Mr. Paul will speak to FEC about these ideas and will update the committee with an email with his findings.   There might be a possibility of Comcast broadcasted the videos at no cost.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
