Mr. Germain called the Advocacy, Public Information and Education (APIE) Committee meeting to order on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 12:09 p.m. Mr. Germain asked for a motion for the approval minutes of November 19, 2009. Ms. Taylor made a motion to approve and Ms. Lombardi seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

There was a discussion about the letter from Mr. Preneta regarding his meeting with the business office’s staff from the Department with Developmental Services. This letter outlines the process by which the Council needs to choose a contractor. Mr. Preneta gave his professional advice regarding whether or not the initiative of working with a freelance writer and/or public relations firms would be awarded. He thought a contract would be awarded if initiatives are promoted that would inform people with disabilities and their families about an issue. He advised the committee to develop a rough plan for the outcomes of this initiative that included the entities that would be involved with carrying out the plan.

Mr. Germain asked Ms. Langton to email to the committee the various initiatives that the Council is working on in 2009-2010. These initiatives can be addressed when the committee is developing a plan.

The committee agreed to meet the week of December 14th from 4pm to 6pm. The purpose of the meeting is to create a plan that the committee wants to achieve by contracting with a freelance writer and or relation firm.

There was a discussion about having a theme for the stories for the Annual Report. Members agreed to table this topic for the next meeting. Volunteers who agreed to the proof-readers are – Ms. Baker, Ms. Lombardi, Ms. Lortie and Mr. Legault.

Members unanimously adjourned the meeting at 1 P.M

Respectfully submitted,
