Ms. Taylor began the Public Information & Education meeting at 10:05 a.m. Ms. Taylor reviewed the revised media/communication policy. This policy does not exclude anyone acting as a citizen from sending letters to the newspapers or presenting testimonies to the Legislature. If people mention the Council on Developmental Disabilities in their writing, then a disclaimer should be included. Ms. Cartland asked that Council members email their written letters to the Council. Ms. Langton asked members to email the staff when they see articles or hear about items in the news about disabilities issues. Council staff will email the PIE committee when a person is writing a piece for the Council. Approval is needed by the chair or co-chair of the Council before someone sends an article to a newspaper or presents testimony.
There was a discussion about the Able Lives proposal. The committee wanted to narrow the proposal to make it focus on branding the Able Lives series. The committee will ask CPTV to redefine the budget. Mr. Broadbridge made a motion that the committee to set aside $50,000 for CPTV.
There was no discussion on the annual report because the Council meeting began at 11.
The meeting was adjourned at 11 a.m.
