Michael Gailor Appointed Middlesex State’s Attorney

The Honorable Andrew J. McDonald, Chair of the Criminal Justice Commission, announced that the Commission has appointed Michael A. Gailor as State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Middlesex.

Attorney Gailor was appointed for an eight-year term succeeding Peter A. McShane, who served as State’s Attorney from November 2011 until his appointment earlier this year as a Judge of the Superior Court.

The State’s Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer for the Judicial District of Middlesex, which includes the city of Middletown and the towns of Chester, Clinton, Cromwell, Deep River, Durham, East Haddam, East Hampton, Essex, Haddam, Killingworth, Middlefield, Old Saybrook, Portland and Westbrook.

State’s Attorney Gailor joined the Division of Criminal Justice in 1993 as a Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney and in 1995 transferred to the Judicial District of Hartford where he served until his appointment as Executive Assistant State’s Attorney in 2005.

State’s Attorney Gailor earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from Cornell University and his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law. He is active in community organizations and has taught at numerous institutions, including serving as Director of the Prosecutor’s Field Placement Program at the UConn Law School. He is president of the Connecticut Criminal Justice Educational and Charitable Association.

Established pursuant to Article XXIII of the Connecticut Constitution, the Criminal Justice Commission is responsible for the appointment of all state prosecutors in Connecticut. In addition to Justice McDonald, Associate Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court, its membership includes the Honorable Juliett L. Crawford, Judge of the Superior Court, attorneys Mary M. Galvin, Eric George, Moy N. Ogilvie and Erick A. Russell and Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane.
