Taking office in 2004, Kevin Sullivan is Connecticut's 106th Lieutenant Governor and the first to serve from West Hartford. He is a member of the National Lieutenant Governor's Association and serves on the Connecticut Finance Advisory Committee. As Lieutenant Governor, he leads a Connecticut Community Mental Health Cabinet that continues to advocate for mental health care reform.  He is recognized nationally by the American Psychiatric Association and American Psychological Association for his leadership in enacting landmark initiatives to provide more effective, less costly and more recovery driven community-based mental health care.  He has also successfully advocated for improved assistance for Connecticut military on active duty and their families, tougher state ethics enforcement, an independent statewide Commission on Aging, Boundless Playgrounds for children, consumer protection from identity theft, and property tax relief.

First elected as a State Senator in 1986, Kevin Sullivan led the State Senate as President Pro Tempore from 1997 to 2004. In 2002, Connecticut Magazine described him as "bright and honest with an admirable work ethic." As a State Senator, he was especially recognized for his leadership in support of early childhood, public school improvement, higher education and student financial aid, economic development, tougher ethics and campaign finance laws, homeland security, state law enforcement, budget reform and tax relief for middle income and lower income families as well as senior citizens on modest fixed incomes.

Kevin Sullivan has chaired the national Senate President's Forum, been active in the National Legislative Leaders Foundation and was nationally selected to participate in the University of Virginia's Program for Emerging Political Leaders. He previously served on the West Hartford Town Council and as Mayor of the town.  He is a member of the Rotary Club and League of Women Voters, founded the State Capitol Vietnam Veteran's Memorial, organized the first Connecticut-Israel Exchange Commission, and established the CT-N state information network.

Kevin Sullivan grew up in West Hartford where he attended local public schools.  He was the first in his family to have the opportunity to go to college. He graduated with honors from Trinity College in 1971, where he was recognized for civil rights activity and community service. In 1982, he graduated from the University of Connecticut School Of Law. As an attorney, he has practiced administrative, telecommunications and banking law. He has also served as an Assistant to the State Commissioner of Education and, most recently as a Vice President at Trinity College in Hartford where he oversaw the college's successful community and institutional initiatives as well as lecturing in public policy.

Kevin and his wife, Dr. Carolyn Thornberry, an educator and Town Councilwoman, reside in West Hartford.
