Governor Rell: $800,000 in Stimulus Funds
To Help Local Schools Upgrade Cafeteria
Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that the state has awarded nearly $800,000 in grants to local school districts and charter and private schools to buy new equipment for cafeterias and lunchroom.
“These are the types of purchases that, while important, are often deferred for years, even decades because there is always another more immediate priority for building repair and maintenance or for other equipment,” Governor Rell said. “With these funds, schools can finally purchase needed equipment for their cafeteria program without added burden to local taxpayers.”
The state Department of Education awarded grants ranging from $5,800 to more than $80,000 to more than 50 public and private schools with National School Lunch Equipment Grants from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).
