Governor Rell Names Richard Nicholson
New Revenue Services Commissioner
DRS Deputy Commissioner and Former General Counsel
Replaces Retiring Commissioner Pamela Law
Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that she has named Richard D. Nicholson of Glastonbury as the new Commissioner of the Department of Revenue Services (DRS) to replace Commissioner Pamela Law, who is retiring effective July 1. Nicholson, who has served as the Department’s Deputy Commissioner since February, 2003, will serve as Acting Commissioner until confirmed by the legislature during the next regular session of the General Assembly.
“The Department of Revenue Services is a key state agency performing essential responsibilities for the State and it is important that the new Commissioner be an individual of the highest caliber,” Governor Rell said. “Rich Nicholson has the knowledge and the right blend of public and private sector experience to fulfill this mission. Rich has a comprehensive understanding of the Department and its issues and we are fortunate to have him at the helm in this new leadership role.”
Nicholson received his bachelor’s degree from the College of Holy Cross and earned a law degree at the University of Connecticut School of Law. Prior to his appointment as Deputy Commissioner, he was a partner with the law firm of Shipman & Goodwin. Between 1994 and 2000, Nicholson served as General Counsel for the Department of Revenue Services.
Commissioner Law is retiring after a distinguished 33-year career with the State of Connecticut.
