EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 24

WHEREAS, previous Governors and I have enacted a number of Executive Orders; and

WHEREAS, these Executive Orders were enacted to establish worthy and valuable task forces and commissions; and

WHEREAS, given the current economic climate in Connecticut, there is a need to reduce both direct and indirect spending; and

WHEREAS, many of these task forces and commissions have served well and honorably; and

WHEREAS, the task forces and committees were enacted in a better fiscal environment; and

WHEREAS, in an effort to reduce spending, control costs, and reduce the size of government it is in the best interest of the State of Connecticut to decrease the number of task forces and commissions.       

NOW, THEREFORE, I, M. JODI RELL, Governor of the State of Connecticut, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and Statutes of the State do hereby ORDER AND DIRECT:

1.         That Governor Abraham Ribicoff’s Executive Order, establishing the Governor’s Committee on Physical Fitness, is repealed;        

2.        That Governor Ella Grasso’s Executive Order No. 23, establishing the Advisory Commission on American and Francophone Cultural Affairs, is repealed;

3.         That Governor Rowland’s Executive Order No. 13, establishing the Governor’s Competitiveness Council, is repealed;

4.         That Governor Rowland’s Executive Order No. 7-A, establishing the Governor’s Small Business Advisory Council, is repealed;

5.         That Executive Order No. 11, creating the Governor’s Identity Theft Advisory Board, is repealed;

6.         That Executive Order No. 13, establishing the Governor’s Early Childhood Research and Policy Council, is repealed;

7.         That the Department of Transportation considers dissolving or terminating the Buckland Area Transportation Study Advisory Committee, given that the Committee has accomplished its intended purpose;

8.         That the board members of the Connecticut Economic Resource Center Board consider dissolving or terminating the Board; and

9.                  That this order shall take effect March 1, 2009.
