EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 16
WHEREAS, Gerald R. Ford served as the 38th President of the United States from August 9, 1974 to January 20, 1977;
WHEREAS, President Ford assumed the Presidency under unusual circumstances and during a tumultuous time in American history;
WHEREAS, President Ford was a man of great integrity and helped restore public confidence in the Presidency;
WHEREAS, as citizens of the United States and of Connecticut we will forever be indebted to this man of humility and decency who helped heal our nation;
WHEREAS, President Ford, educated at Connecticut’s Yale University, served honorably in the United State’s Navy and became a committed internationalist – a believer in the importance of America’s role as a world leader;
WHEREAS, President Ford passed away on December 26, 2006;
WHEREAS, President George W. Bush has declared a January 2, 2007 a National Day of Mourning for President Gerald R. Ford;
NOW THEREFORE, I M. Jodi Rell, Governor of the State of Connecticut by the authority vested in me by section 1-4 of the Connecticut General Statutes and the Constitution of the State of Connecticut do hereby declare January 2, 2007 a Day of Remembrance to honor the life and service of President Gerald R. Ford and ask all Connecticut citizens to observe a minute of silence at 12 noon on January 2, 2007.
This order shall be effective upon signing.
