ABOUT OUR OFFICE

The Lieutenant Governor is an elected constitutional officer who is charged with:

Serves as President of the Senate by virtue of the office. The duties include presiding over the Senate, recognizing members wishing to address the Senate, putting all questions to vote, deciding questions of order, and referring bills to committees. In the event of a tie vote, the Lieutenant Governor may cast a vote to break the tie

Serves as the Chairperson of the Finance Advisory Committee (FAC)

Serves as the Chairperson of the Interagency Council for Ending the Achievement Gap

Serves as the Chairperson of the CT Health Insurance Exchange Board of Directors

Serves as the Chairperson of the Governor's Health Care Cabinet

Oversees the Office of Health Reform and Innovation

Serves as an ex-officio member on various boards and commissions:
Health Information Technology Exchange of Connecticut
Yale Corporation, more formally known as The President and Fellows of Yale College and is the governing body of Yale University
The Commission on Intergovernmental Cooperation
Connecticut Employment and Training Commission
American School for the Deaf Board of Directors

Operates the state government during the Governor’s absence from the state

Succeeds the Governor in the event of the Governor’s death, resignation, refusal to serve or removal from office
