Attention Retirees: New State Tax Requirement Effective January 1, 2018

Per Connecticut General Statute 12-705, as amended by 2017 Connecticut Public Acts 147, 6, beginning on January 1st, 2018, all retirees living in the State of Connecticut (from both the public and private sectors) must submit a 2018 Form CT-W4P to their payers.

The state Department of Revenue Services has instructed all payers to withhold CT state income tax at 6.99% until a 2018 Form CT-W4P has been received for each applicable retiree. Retirees are no longer permitted to specify a flat dollar amount to be withheld. Failure to provide the state with a properly completed 2018 Form CT-W4P will result in 6.99% withholding from retirees payment(s) (excluding the retirees who are under the wage threshold as defined on page 3 and page 4 of the 2018 Form CT-W4P and instructions).  Please read instructions carefully before completing the form.

Return completed forms to:

CT Teachers' Retirement Board, 765 Asylum Ave 2nd Floor, Hartford CT 06105 or fax to 860-525-6018 or email to TRB.Webmaster@ct.gov.
