General Election Statements of Vote, 1922 – Current
Since 1922, the Office of the Secretary of the State has biennially published general election returns for state and district offices. The resulting publication is entitled the “Statement of Vote.”
PDF image files of the printed Statements of Vote are available below. You must have appropriate viewer software to use PDF files. Some of the files are large. File size is noted.
Depending upon the election cycle, a General Election Statement of Vote includes returns for State Officers (Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of the State, Treasurer, Comptroller and Attorney General); President and Vice President; U.S. Senator and Representative; State Senator and Representative; and Judge of Probate. For some years, returns for Registrars of Voters are included.
Vote totals are typically summarized by town, congressional district, and county.
Election Day turnout, registration and absentee ballot statistics are also typically included.
Returns and turnout statistics for towns divided across more than one congressional district are combined on one line for tables presenting town level data.
Registration and turnout data is not presented by party affiliation and no such data is collected by officials on Election Day. In some cases, that data may be available for party primary elections only.
Pre-Election Day party registration statistics have been reported to the Secretary of the State since 1958. Tables containing that data are available at the following link: Voter Registration Statistics.
This page will be updated after publication of the next official General Election Statement of Vote.
