Thank you for your interest in serving on a state board or commission. There are hundreds of state boards and commissions in Connecticut with functions that vary greatly. For example, some direct professional and occupational licensing programs; some administer state and federal funds in areas such as the arts, education, economic development, environmental protection and social services; some have quasi-judicial and policy-making responsibilities; some provide advisory assistance to state agencies and still others are created to study and report on public policy issues.

Below is a link to a list of state boards and commissions that are statutorily mandated to send information to our office. This list is not exhaustive, but it includes the boards and commissions who have members appointed by the Governor and by legislative leadership. I encourage you to review this list, along with the "Action Steps" document (link below) which explains the process for getting appointed.

Appointed officials make a significant contribution to our communities and their willingness to serve their fellow citizens is what makes our democracy thrive. Without these individuals, our system of self government would come to a standstill. Their commitment to public service - often without applause and without personal advancement - is a precious gift.
