Emergency Response Guidebook 2008 Training Video

The U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) is pleased to announce the release of a "how to use" the Emergency Response Guidebook 2008 (ERG) training video.  The International Association of Fire Chiefs, under a cooperative agreement with PHMSA, developed this training video to enhance the use of the ERG and to fill training gaps.  The video explains the contents of the ERG and how to use it as a resource in the event of a hazardous materials transportation incident.  It is designed to be a stand-alone training tool for those who have no familiarity with the ERG and as a refresher for those who have had prior training.  The video is available for direct viewing and download from PHMSA's website at http://phmsa.dot.gov/hazmat/library/erg and download from IAFC's website at www.iafctv.org.

Ready Classroom Online Educational Program

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Ad Council have joined with Discovery Education to announce Ready Classroom, an online education program.  Ready Classroom provides elementary and middle school teachers with resources to integrate natural disaster preparedness information into their curriculum.  The program is an extension of Ready Kids, a nationwide effort designed to encourage children and families to take action and prepare for emergencies.

The online resource, www.discoveryeducation.com/readyclassroom, provides teachers with activities, lesson plans and multimedia tools that teach students how natural disasters develop and inspires them to build their own emergency preparedness plans with their families.  The site features grade-specific lesson plans (K-8), videos, games, puzzles and bulletin board recommendations.

EPA's State Delivery Prohibition Website

The EPA's state delivery prohibition website is available at http://www.epa.gov/oust/dp/index.htm.  This site provides links to states' and territories' delivery prohibition programs where users will find detailed information, including applicable laws, regulations, and policies.  Information accessible through this site can help fuel delivery drivers determine if an underground storage tank is not eligible to receive fuel.

Section 1527 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 stated that, by August 2007, states and territories receiving funds under Subtitle I of the Solid Waste Disposal Act were required to meet delivery prohibition requirements described in grant guidelines EPA developed.  EPA consulted with states and representatives from the underground storage tank and fuel delivery industries to develop the guidelines.  During that consultation, some stakeholders requested that EPA provide information on delivery prohibition programs developed and used by states and EPA committed to provide that information.  This website fulfills that commitment.  Please address any comments or questions regarding EPA's delivery prohibition website to Tim Roberts or 703-603-7144.
