Water Unit
 
The Water Unit processes, in accordance with statutes and regulations, all filings submitted in relation to the 19 investor-owned water utilities and 1 investor-owned sewage utility in Connecticut currently regulated by the Department.  These filings include such complex regulatory issues as:  capital improvements, infrastructure replacement and/or rehabilitation, water system acquisitions, water main extensions, long-term financing, water conservation, fire protection, cost-of-service, rate design, revenue requirements, and water utility land sales.  The Water Unit also reviews, in consultation with the Department of Public Health, system applications for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) for community water systems.
