POINTS OF INTEREST

 

  • Read   the   Ombudsman's message   about mediation and if you have received a notice from any state or municipal agency indicating an intent to take your property or an easement over your property, read how you can request mediation.

 

  • Read the Goodwill Study in which the Ombudsman and a committee of distinguished appraisers, lawyers and government officials call for payment for loss of goodwill and an increase in relocation payments for businesses displaced by eminent domain.

 

  • Read the Office of Ombudsman for Property Rights official 2007-2008 Annual Report as submitted to Governor M. Jodi Rell.

 

  • Read the Ombudsman’s October Newsletter in which he discusses regulatory takings in greater detail.  Learn how local land use agencies are able to affect property values, sometimes negatively, without paying any compensation.  Also, find out what “exaction” means.
