Law Enforcement Resource Center
The Law Enforcement Resource Center at the Connecticut Police Academy is a State agency library specializing in the fields of police service and criminology. The library also contains a small law book collection. The services and materials in the Law Enforcement Resource Center supplement the educational mission of the Connecticut Police Academy, which provides initial training for both Municipal and State Police recruits and in-service training for law enforcement officers in Connecticut. Education is necessary to foster the professionalism of law enforcement officers and a library contributes to an officer's education by providing the services and materials to enhance the curriculum and to allow for individualized learning. Materials are available to help law enforcement officers advance in their chosen career field, by providing information on other educational institutions, and materials needed to study for promotional examinations.
Another mission of the Law Enforcement Resource Center is to provide information resources concerning police services and criminology to citizens of Connecticut. Students, professors, and members of the public may visit the library to conduct research. Other libraries may borrow resources through interlibrary loan. It is hoped that the specialized information available at the Law Enforcement Resource Center will encourage crime prevention, provide knowledge concerning crime and criminals, and foster an understanding of the role of the law enforcement officer.
The Law Enforcement Resource Center is used by recruits and instructors at the Connecticut Police Academy and police officers from any town, school, and State Police Troop in Connecticut.
Individual patrons are accorded equal treatment without regard to age, race, sex, religion, national origin, or physical or mental handicaps. This library has a statewide patron base.
Books, videotapes, audiotapes, and sound slides may be borrowed for thirty (30) days with one renewal for another thirty (30) days. Media that is lost will be replaced by the librarian, and paid for by the borrower upon receipt of the replacement item by the library.
