State Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) appropriated $296 million to be distributed by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) through formulaic grants to U.S. states, territories and the District of Columbia for the establishment and administration of State Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Programs (SEEARP). SEEARP ARRA funding is to be used to support states’ new, or existing, rebate programs for residential Energy Star appliance products. Of the $296 million being made available for the SEEARP, the State of Connecticut is eligible to receive from the DOE a direct formulaic grant of approximately $3.4 million. Housing the State’s Energy Office, the Office of Policy and Management is responsible for overseeing and managing Connecticut’s allocation of SEEARP ARRA funding.
Funding and Event Timetable
The State of Connecticut filed its letter of intent before the August 15th deadline. Plans for implementing the program are presently under development. This effort involves researching similar programs and exploring all of the mechanics associated with such a program. An implementation plan is required for the application that is due to the Department of Energy by October 15th. The State of Connecticut will receive $3.4 million for the state energy efficient appliance rebate program when their application is approved. Once approved, the Department of Energy has advised that it is expected that these monies will be sent to the State of Connecticut by the end of 2009.
