CT CKC Framework Reflection Tool for Developing Individual Professional Development Plans (IPDPs)

Taking time to think about your work with young children and families is important.  This tool provides a framework for anyone working with young children and families to think about their knowledge, understanding and practices.

The first step is to know yourself as a learner and to have an open frame of mind that allows you to feel comfortable asking yourself critical questions.  We each carry our own perspective about ourselves, others, and how working with young children and families should look like. These perspectives are developed over time through our lived experiences and influence our practice.  It is important to check your practices through a lens of others’ point of view and intentionally consider:

  • Do I really know everything I need to know about working with young children and families?
  • Have I considered what others may think about my practices?
  • What should I consider as areas of growth or new learning opportunities?
  • How will my new learning and enhanced practice effect children and families?

The reflection tool is your personal guide for thinking.  There is a paper version and an online version so you may choose what works best for you.  Supervisors wishing to have conversations with staff about their reflections and goals for professional development should follow best practices regarding reflective supervision . The reflection tool is NOT used for evaluation purposes but rather to engage in an authentic conversation about growth opportunities.

The paper version can be found at CT CKC Reflection Tool and the online version can be found at www.Reflectcore.org

USE OF DATA NOTICE

The CKC reflection tool was developed by the OEC and is the official tool used by the OEC. The online version for the tool was created by EASTCONN as a helpful way for individuals to keep track of their reflections and see their choices visually organized for easy use of the tool.  Each person has their own account so a supervisor cannot create a group account nor access your personal account.  The only data that can be seen by EASTCONN or by the Office of Early Childhood are the demographics of the types of roles and settings that are using the tool.  Data on how you rate yourself is not collected.
