Storm Information for Child Care Providers

With the impending storm, we would like to remind child care programs that it is not necessary to report all unforeseen, temporary closures of your program to the Office of Early Childhood (OEC) Division of LicensingIt is only necessary to notify the OEC if you need prior approval for instances such as a move to an alternate location, use of an alternate space, or a different use of space.

There is a possibility for power outages with this storm. When making a decision as to whether or not to close your program, consider regulations related to health and safety for the following:

  • Proper refrigeration for perishable foods
  • Sanitary and safe practices in the areas of toileting and diapering
  • Proper air temperature
  • Medical equipment requiring electricity
  • Operational telephones

As a reminder, 2-1-1’s information and referral and crisis line, is available 24 hours a day to provide resources and support for storm related issues.

For updated information about the blizzard, please stay tuned to your local news or visit Governor Malloy’s website at www.governor.ct.gov/malloy.

Thank you and stay safe.
