Associate Medical Examiner Position
Overview
The Office of Chief Medical Examiner is accredited by the National Association of Medical Examiners. The working environment is in a modern professional setting and it is a short walk to the UConn Medical School, which has an academic relationship with the Office of Chief Medical Examiner. Experience and Training
Prospective applicants must be certified in anatomic pathology by the American Board of Pathology, and eligible to be board certified in forensic pathology within two years of employment. Applicants completing a fellowship or forensic pathology training will be considered. Candidates must have a license to practice medicine and surgery in Connecticut. A temporary license may be granted for a period not to exceed one year.
Duties
Responsibilities include performing autopsies (250-275 per year) and supporting functions such as decision making, setting priorities, completing supporting reports, submission of findings, courtroom testimony consisting of about 10-15 appearances per year, depositions and reviewing investigative reports. Teaching responsibilities with rotating students is strongly encouraged. Required work rotations include on call evenings/nights every 5th night and weekend work (rotations posted on a yearly basis).
Compensation/Benefits
The starting annual salary will range from $164,496 to $173,719 (depending on number of Board certifications) plus on call compensation.
AP and CP certified (2) $164,496
AP, CP and FP certified (3) $169,107
AP, CP, FP plus one other (4) $173,719
Evening/night on-call pay is $280/8-hr shift. Weekend office pay is $640/8-hr shift.
