The agency’s mission includes the goals of reducing electrical rates and decreasing costs for Connecticut ratepayers, ensuring the reliability of the state’s energy supply, increasing the use of clean energy and developing the state’s energy-related economy.
The DEEP is also committed to motivating Connecticut’s residents – especially children – to learn and care about the environment. Through a wide variety of environmental education programs staff is determined to ensure that No Child is Left Inside®.
The DEEP is led by Commissioner Daniel C. Esty, who was appointed to the position in 2011.
