In each Connecticut's Drug Demand Reduction activity is the Josephson Institute of Ethic's Character Counts! Coalition "Six Pillars of Character".  The Character Counts! Coalition uses an aggressive strategy which includes:  A national public awareness campaign to stimulate individual and organizational involvement in character development, heightened by the Joint Resolution of Congress that declares the third week in October as "National Character Counts! Week."

Character Counts! is a National Partnership of Organizations including the Connecticut National Guard and Individuals involved in the Education, Training, or Care of Youth, joined together to improve the character of America's young people based on Six Core Ethical Values, the "Six Pillars of Character":  Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.
