Area Agencies on Aging

 
Across Connecticut, five Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) provide comprehensive services to older adults, individuals with disabilities, and caregivers. The agencies listed below offer support, information and services in community education, advocacy, care management, counseling, and benefits. In addition, they administer programs such as CHOICES (information and assistance), the Statewide Respite Care Program, and National Family Caregiver Support Program.

Area agency on aging funds, plans, coordinates and advocates for services for the elderly; provides information and assistance on aging issues and services in southwestern Conn.; administers the Conn. Home Care Program for Elders in southwestern Conn., providing case management to eligible frail elders. Special programs include CHOICES, a health insurance counseling and information and referral program; National Family Caregiver Support Program; Conn. Statewide respite Care Program; and the Senior Housing Assistance Fund.

Area agency on aging plans, advocates, funds, and coordinates programs for elderly, caregivers, and younger disabled individuals in the Western Conn. region. Also offers the CHOICES Program that provides older adults with health insurance counseling, information and referral to senior services, and eligibility screening for general State and Federal benefits programs. Also offers the Respite Care Program that provides primary caregivers of persons with Alzheimer's/Parkinson or dementia related disorders with limited funding for home care/respite services to relieve caregiver stress; National Family Caregivers Program that provides primary caregivers of persons over the age of 60 with limited funding for respite care or supplemental services.

Area Agency on Aging (AAA) for the greater New Haven, Shoreline, and Lower Naugatuck Valley areas funds elderly service organizations and provides both community based and home based services for older adults living in the region. Through the CHOICES Program, the agency provides personal assistance to seniors and their families with Medicare and related insurance issues; information and referral to federal, state and community services; and eligibility screening for benefits and financial aid programs. Other services and programs include the Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent Programs. The Bridge Program provides care management services for older adults to help them remain independent in the community. Through the South Central Conn. RSVP, older adults interested in volunteer opportunities are linked to community organizations in need of assistance. AASCC also manages the Conn. Department of Social Services Home Care Program for Elders for the South Central region.
