It is not too early to begin planning for Summer 2013. Whether you are going to summer camp, getting a summer job, or just staying close to home,
ConneCT Kids has some resources that will help you plan for a great summer. Additional items will be added as they become available. If you know of any additional resources please let us know at connect.kids@ct.gov
Currently Licensed Youth Camps
The list of currently licensed Connecticut Youth Camps may be obtained from the Department of Public Health's Youth Camp Licensing Program’s on-line lookup tool. You may obtain the current full list using the following procedure.
- Open the State of Connecticut eLicensing Website's License Lookup and Download page at https://www.elicense.ct.gov/
- Select the Generate Roster(s) link from the list on left https://www.elicense.ct.gov/Lookup/GenerateRoster.aspx
- Scroll down to the "Youth Camp Licensing" link
- Select the link to expand the list of available rosters. There are two - "Actively Licensed Youth Camps" and "Approved Youth Camp Directors." Both maybe selected, no fee required.
- To select a list for generation, activate the checkbox beside either list.
- Then select the "Continue" button at bottom of page.
- Once the rosters have been generated, the "Roster Downloads Available" Page will open with a table listing the selected roster(s) and a selection of available download file formats for each - Excel Spreadsheet, Comma Seperated Value, or Text (tab delimited). We suggest Excel so you may sort the list on any of the available fields.
- After activating the desired format checkbox for each list, select the "Download" button. Depending on your bowser, you may be given a choice to Open or Save the file.

The University of Hartford -
Summer Place 2013 The University of Hartford offers five exciting summer camp programs for children from pre-school through twelfth grade. Each program is unique, yet all share a common commitment to excellence in curriculum, staff, and facilities.
Learning and fun go hand-in-hand at Summer Place, where campers follow a daily schedule that includes a half-day of enrichment courses and a half-day of sports or recreational activities. First through fourth graders participate in two enrichment classes in the morning and three recreational activities in the afternoon (first and second grade campers opting for early dismissal take only two recreational activities in the afternoon); fifth through ninth graders follow a schedule of three recreational activities in the morning and two enrichment courses in the afternoon. The entire camp gathers together for opening and closing activities and at lunch. At all times throughout the day, children are under the careful direction and supervision of the Summer Place staff.

Art at Murray Pond, Summer Art Camp for Kids. Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Color, Photography and more! Come and learn from a professional artist in a beautiful nature preserve in Killingworth. For older teens and adults, Adult Painting and Drawing Week at Murray Pond, July 15-19, 9:00am to 4:00pm. Bring lunch for a break from 12:00 to 1:00pm. Join a group of dedicated painters and come to a private preserve in Killingworth to paint en plein air, in the Pond House Studio, or even in a canoe on the pond! Enjoy the support of being part of a group as you receive individual instruction, while you focus on your painting for a week. All levels of experience are welcome from beginners to advanced!
Joan Levy Hepburn is a world class painter, who studied with Willem de Kooning, Rhode Island School of Design, and received her BFA from Kansas City Art Institute. She is also known as “The Color Doctor” for her expertise in color, and has taught her famous color course for the last 30 years.
Yale Peabody Museum Summer Camps - July and August 2013: Are you looking for fun and educational camps for your child this summer? All programs provide opportunities to investigate our exceptional collections and include field trips. Camps meet daily from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. 1. Two Chinese Language units: With a focus on kids’ overall four Chinese proficiency areas, drilling their Chinese communication skills and elevating their reading and writing ability.
2. Math Curriculum is based on student interest and levels, including but not limited to PSAT/SAT math questions, math contest (Olympiad and/or MathCounts) preparation, and puzzles. This course will be taught in English.
3. Science Project will start with an introduction of the animal classification system.
4. Video Game Design and Computer Game Programming Class will demonstrate how to program a video game, in a hope to inspire the imagination and creativity of students so they are motivated to develop their own game from scratch.
5. Chinese Culture Chinese calligraphy, painting, handcrafts, foods, martial arts, dancing, and Chinese songs, music, along which related Chinese geography and history will be introduced to the students.
6. Chinese Theater Play or puppet show: each student will be assigned with a role in a Chinese theater play. At the end of summer section, students will perform at the celebration (parents are invited).

WOODCOCK IS A STATE LICENSED SUMMER CAMP - Join us in exploring our beautiful 149-acre preserve through hands-on activities that bring your child closer to our local wildlife. Some weeks even have a Friday night campout option for campers and their parents to set up tents, roast some marshmallows, and enjoy all the wonders a star-filled Woodcock night has to offer! We even prepare you breakfast the next morning! Campouts are cancelled if there is a strong threat of rain.
Early Explorers: We are offering a summer camp experience for 3 year olds and young 4s. This introduction to summer camp will offer daily signups and different topics each day. Come for one day; come for five! $35 a day for members; $40 a day for non-members. Groups will be limited to 8 campers with 2 college age counselors, with additional programming from senior staff. The camp sessions available daily from June 10-14 and June 17-21 and will run from 9-12 each day. This is a drop off program, and campers need to bring a snack, water bottle and be dressed to be outside each day, rain or shine. A change of clothes is recommended. This is a great opportunity for your little one to experience camp for the first time. Due to the small group size, space is very limited. We are thrilled to be able to offer this experience to our littlest nature explorers!
Junior Naturalist Camp. For our Pre-K to Kindergarten campers, we offer our wildly popular traditional day camp, where each day promises a different nature theme. From Ssslithering Snakes to Digging for Dinosaurs to Native American Games, each day is filled with live animals, arts and crafts, hikes, games, and other age specific activities focusing on the theme of the day. Pre-K students (ages 4 and up) have the choice of AM or PM camps, while kindergarteners will have a choice of full or half day programs, depending on the week.
Junior Adverturers Camp. Our Full Day Junior Adventurer camp combines the best of the Junior Naturalist experience with some new challenging activities designed for active adventurers! This program is for Kindergarteners ready for a full day of exploration, and for 1st graders.
Adventure Camp - Especially for our 2nd to 7th grade campers! Geared to our older campers, they’ll enjoy a full day of canoeing, tracking, shelter building, rock climbing, animal handling, geocaching, hiking, games, and more! Look for the canoe in the schedule. Our camp is staffed by professional naturalists and college students. The ratio of staff to campers is 5 to 1 or better, and the maximum number of campers per group is 16.
Lunch Bunch - For our half day campers, we will again offer “lunch bunch.” Sign up for an extra hour of play at Woodcock – for only $10 per day, your child will eat lunch with some of our staff, and play in our supervised facilities. Space is limited and more information will be available during the weeks your child is enrolled.
Overnight Camp-Outs - We offer an optional Overnight Camp-Out on Friday after most weeks of camp. Campers who were with us that week may attend with an adult to take a night-hike, raft on our pond, enjoy s’mores over a campfire, and have a real camping experience when they sleep-over in tents out on our property. Join us the next morning for bagels provided by Ancona’s grocery store, plus muffins, fruit, juice and coffee!
Membership - Camp families must be members. Membership is $50 a year and is good for the immediate family. Membership entitles parents to discounts on many programs as well as early sign up for some programs. At Woodcock Nature Center, we base camp groups on the grade the child is currently in (not the grade s/he will enter in the fall). For example, students in Pre-K in the spring, must sign up for the Pre-K camp. Finally, children must be four years old by the start of their camp week to be campers. We go by the grade the child is CURRENTLY in rather than the grade that the child will be starting in the fall.
Innovative Summer Camp -Camp SoundWaters, a unique day camp on the shores of Long Island Sound, offers the following summer camp programs:
Sea Stars – for children entering grades K-2. Hands-on science learning wrapped in FUN! Experience non-stop exploring, activities, games, and live animals. One instructor to six students ratio. Swim lessons and parent/child activity included in every session.
Bluefish – for children entering grades 3-5. Join us for slippery, wet, and non-stop exciting discoveries! Enjoy collecting animals, canoe trips, and one overnight in the SoundWaters Center (two week sessions only). One educator to nine students ratio. Swim lessons and a parent/child activity are included in every session.
Small Boat Sailing - for children entering grades 4-8. Learn to sail and improve your sailing skills with our award winning sailing courses.

Summer@Walker's is a day and residential camp located on the beautiful campus of The Ethel Walker School in Simsbury, Connecticut. This camp is open to girls entering grades 3-10, with weekly sessions running from July 8th-August 2nd. Both half and full-day course options are available, as well as extended care for early drop off/late pickup. Campers can customize a schedule based on individual interests by combining courses in visual arts, performing arts, film, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), Chinese Language and Culture Immersion, and horseback riding. Weekend excursions (to Boston, Newport, and NYC) are also offered to bridge the gap between multiple sessions of camp.

Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo - Unplug and explore this summer at Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo! Connecticut's only zoo features 300 animals representing primarily North and South American species. Visitors won't want to miss our Amur (Siberian) tigers, Brazilian ocelot, Red wolves, and Golden Lion tamarins. Other highlights include our South American rainforest with free-flight aviary, the prairie dog exhibit with "pop-up" viewing areas, the New England Farmyard with goats, cows, pigs, sheep, and other barnyard critters, plus the hoofstock trail featuring bison, pronghorn, deer, and more. July 8 – August 16: Zoo Patrol, 9:00 am – 12:30 pm
If you love animals, the environment and being outdoors then you’ll love Zoo Patrol, a week full of Zoo Keeper talks, behind the scenes tours, hands-on learning, games, crafts and more! Each day patrollers tour an area of the zoo (Rainforest, Predators, Farmyard, Hoofstock) and have a special presentation by our keeper staff. The activities may include making enrichment items for the animals, watching training procedures, learning about new exhibits, and more. Each week also offers some of our zoo presentations and introduction to our education animal collection. We offer zoo related games, crafts and activities for the younger groups. The sessions for the older children may include hands on activities involving tracking, scientific observation, and artifact identification. Zoo Patrollers also take part in all special summer shows offered by the zoo. Each day includes time for a snack and a little air-conditioned break! Special Friday activities include a carousel ride and a trip to the gift shop. Sessions are scheduled for children ages 6 to 8, 9 to 11 and 12 to 14. Zoo Patrol takes place in our Research Station and throughout zoo grounds.

SUMMER CAMP - Colonial Kid’s Adventure Camp: (Ages 8-12) Boys and girls spend a week exploring life in the 1700s as a colonial child! Activities at both the historic Noah Webster House and the farm at Westmoor Park provide campers a first-hand experience with the games, fun, and chores of colonial times. During the camp, children become colonial “characters” and help to cook their lunches over an open-hearth. They explore Noah Webster’s house and garden, work on crafts, and play games. At Westmoor Park, children encounter life on a farm by caring for the barnyard animals, tending the vegetable garden, and creating food and crafts from the bountiful natural resources of the park. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday sessions will be held at the Noah Webster House, 227 South Main Street West Hartford. Bookworm Adventure Workshops - (Ages 3-6) Join us this summer at the Noah Webster House for a “Bookworm Adventure” workshop where children explore language and literacy through storytelling, the use of a felt board to illustrate what they have learned, and activities that will make the story come to life. This is a teacher-led program using Noah Webster’s House, the Museum, and our hands-on discovery space to inspire children to love to read at this critical stage of learning! Children must be toilet trained.

New Haven Ballet Summer Programs -
Children’s Division Camps: New Haven Ballet offers two exciting new educational ballet camps for young children focused on dance, creativity, self- expression and music. Ages 3-7.
Student Division Summer Intensives: The Summer Intensives offer ballet students the highest caliber of classical ballet training, augmented by a rich diversity of classes taught by our outstanding faculty. Ages 8+.

Common Ground Environmental Center Summer Camps - July and August 2013. Common Ground campers will come home happy, dirty, and tired, full of stories of adventure and discovery. Connecticut Historical Society Museum and Library - The Teen Enrichment Program brings together 10-12 high school students for a 4-week summer program. Participants pursue their interests in history while developing important life- and work-skills, such as teamwork, communication, public speaking, responsibility, and self-confidence. Students will go behind-the-scenes in the museum, learn from local historians and museum staff, visit and analyze exhibits, explore original historical materials, work one-on-one with museum and library professionals, take field trips to other museums and historic sites, and work on a culminating group activity to share with the public. Community Farm of Simsbury - Register now for our hands-on, farm-based summer programs! We offer week-long day camps for ages 3 - 10th grade. We even have a program for ages 18 months to 2 years, to explore the farm with a parent or guardian. Daily activities include taking care of our animals, helping in our certified organic gardens, exploring the environment in our steam and wetlands and creating tasty snacks with farm fresh fruits and vegetables. The Elm City ChamberFest. Founded in 2005, Elm City ChamberFest is a two-week intensive chamber music program for intermediate and advanced string and piano students from ages 8 - 18. In addition to participating in their weekly chamber music performances, students, in small 5:1 student to teacher ratio class sizes, receive daily coachings, private lessons and master classes from ECCF faculty. Additional instruction is provided by our internationally renowned guest artists that offer master classes and coachings throughout the two weeks. Students also have the opportunity to observe a world class group of faculty and guest artists in performances as part of an evening concert series. Elm City ChamberFest is also one of the few programs in the country that offers chamber music for young guitar students. Additionally, the ECCF program includes a variety of electives and enrichment classes such as string orchestra, cello choir, guitar ensemble, music theory, children’s choir, Jazz, Klezmer, Theater Improvisation, Yoga, and Alexander Technique. Curtain Call's Summer Youth Theater - For over twenty years, Curtain Call's Summer Youth Theatre has provided creative outlets for youth ages ten to twenty-one both on stage and behind the scenes. Auditions and crew sign-ups are held the beginning of June. Our First Company Meeting and Ad Canvass Day is June 16 and rehearsals run Monday through Thursday evenings, 6:30 to 9:30pm June 18 through August 7 (some weekend rehearsals possible, August 4 and 5 are definite). Overall, our Summer Youth Theatre provides nearly 100 hours of creative enrichment and interaction for youth with common interests under the guidance of a team of area professionals. Connecticut Science Center - Summer Vacation Exploration Camps (July 30- August 24, 2012)
Your 1st to 6th graders will spend their school vacation learning and having fun at our Summer Vacation Exploration Camps. Attend one week or all four. Drop off - 8:30AM. Pick up - 3:30 to 4PM. Extended Care from 4 to 5PM ($20 fee). WEEK 1: July 30 – August 3: Robotics Now: Become an expert in how to program robots to compete in robot challenges, The Robo Race and The Robo Dance Off. In addition, build your own robot to take home. Repeat campers welcome, many new activities are planned. ($20 materials fee for Robot)
WEEK 2: August 6 - 10: Digging Dinosaurs: Meet real-life ancient animals that lived with the dinosaurs. Discover how fossils happen and make some of your own. Take a tour through the Science Center’s newest exhibit Dinosaurs Unearthed and of experience the new movie “Flying Monsters”!
WEEK 3: August 13-17: Surviving Science Island: Stranded on Science Island with a hurricane on its way. . . No problem! To survive, you must investigate the environment, the plants and animals! Discover what the human body needs to live. Generate electricity from natural sources and filter your own water! Design your own mini tree house built to survive the oncoming hurricane!
WEEK 4: August 20-24: Going, Going. . . .Gone!: Discover what it takes to build a successful vehicle by building hot air balloons, airplanes, hovercrafts, maglev cars, and even jet power! Investigate the forces that would affect your vehicle. Use your new knowledge and vehicles to assemble your own vehicle of the future. (An additional material fee of $12 for the jet car is required.)

The Loomis Chaffee Summer Program online application is now available. We encourage you to apply early as some classes may fill quickly.
LEARN TO SCUBA DIVE

Registration Open for Arts Center Killingworth Summer Camps
July Fashion and Art Camps
Art Center Killingworth’s popular summer camps: July Fashion Weeks I and II and the Art of Mother Nature Camps are now accepting registration. These programs fill early so don’t wait to register.
In Art of Mother Nature, children, ages 6-8 and 9-14 use nature as inspiration to draw, paint and sculpt on the grounds of the Arts Center. Mornings the Arts Center works with children ages 6-8 and afternoons (1-4pm) children ages 9-14 participate in art projects geared to their ages. Visit

In Fashion I (July 8-12; 9:00am-5:30pm) and Fashion II (July 15-19; 9:00am-5:30pm), mornings are spent learning fashion illustration while afternoons focus on sewing and clothing design. Bridgeport Theatre Company is proud to announce BTC, Jr., a 2-week summer theater program for young actors of all experience levels (entering 1st grade through entering 8th grade).
Session #1 (Schoolhouse Rock Jr.) runs July 9-20 (PERFORMANCE for parents/families: Thurs July 19 @ 7pm); Session #2 (Disney's 101 Dalmations Jr.) runs July 23-Aug 3 (PERFORMANCE for parents/families: Thurs Aug 2nd @ 7pm).
BTC, Jr. is a comprehensive, immersive theater experience for young actors (entering grade 1 through entering grade 8) of all experience levels. This year's program will be held at the wonderful facility of the United Congregational Church at Park and State Street in Downtown Bridgeport. Reverend Sara Smith has welcomed BTC into their church, which contains a large rec room including a large stage for the production, as well as multiple classrooms throughout the church which are available to us for our break-out classes and activities.
In each two-week session the students will create a full production of a musical, from acting/singing/dancing to the offstage magic that goes into mounting a musical: set building, costume design, prop creation, program design, etc.
The mornings will comprise of rehearsing the musical (informal-type auditions will be held the first day of the program); the afternoons will comprise of creating sets, costumes, props, etc for the show, as well as educational classes such as acting technique, improvisation, theater games, and more. At the end of the two-week session there will be a performance for parents/families/friends on the second Thursday evening. Then on the final day of the program the students will complete their experience by 'striking' the production (along with the staff of course), which is an important aspect of creating the show, it provides closure for the artist and also teaches discipline in seeing a project through to the very end.
Full-day students will enjoy a comprehensive experience in creating a show from start to finish. Half-day students will rehearse the show and enjoy occasional break-out activities like theater games. For a full theatrical experience we recommend the full-day, but we still vow to our half-day students to provide a wonderful experience.

Summer is a time of growth and discovery, and summer camps are the source of countless enriching and memorable experiences for children. At the Yale Peabody Museum, summer camp provides the opportunity to learn about natural and cultural history in a relaxed setting, through fun and engaging hands-on experiences. The Museum’s world-class collections and exhibits serve as a truly unique backdrop to each week’s program. While some camps focus on a specific topic or set of skills, others are broad surveys of everything the Peabody has to offer!
A limited number of full and partial need-based scholarships are available. To be eligible, those seeking scholarships must apply by May 4, 2012 (you will be asked to submit copies of your family’s most recent tax documents). Other restrictions apply.
At a minimum, the Program Registration Form and a $100 deposit are required to reserve a space for your child in one of our summer programs. If your child’s camp is canceled two months before the start of camp, a full refund will be issued. New Britain Youth Theater - NBYT's 2012 summer production for ages 7 through 14 will be Seussical! Favorite books and characters from Dr. Seuss come to life in this musical fantasy about Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, the Whos of Whoville, and more! This "Broadway Junior" version is designed specifically for children to perform.
Rehearsals will be held over a four-week half-day program (Mondays through Fridays) with a weekend of performances at the end of the program. All children who register will be cast in the show. Roles will be determined based on pre-program auditions to be scheduled in June. Over the course of the program, the cast will rehearse the performance--including music and choreography--and will also help to make some of the props and costumes to be used in the show! This summer 5 and 6 year olds an also be involved in Seussical!

Wooster School - CT Project - The CT Project at Wooster is a creative intensive experience for high-school age students that allows them to spend two weeks on the Wooster campus in seminars and discussions, activities, independent work and studio time. Each two-week session is centered on a single “big idea.” The program is staffed by talented educators who will help students refine their critical thinking skills while addressing important social, political, and cultural issues. The CT Project at Wooster serves motivated students from grades 9 through 12 who have an interest in delving deeply into a single idea through concentrated work, thought, and creative effort.

The Shubert Summer Theater & Arts Camp is a summer program for middle-school students who want to explore interests, potential, and opportunities in the arts. Each cast member will participate in an array of playful and creative activities, taking classes in story theatre, creative Movement, music, puppetry, film, and arts & crafts, as well as going on a weekly field trip. Each session will end in a mini-production that each cast creates based on favorite Seuss stories and characters.
One-Act Play, Ages 9-15, August 5-16, 9am-5pm, $550. Young actors will hone their skills with training in the basics of acting and improvisation, working toward the production of a one-act play. ONE ACT: "A Play With Words" by Peter Bloedel (author of " The Seussification of Romeo & Juliet").

University of Tennis Junior Program
The University of Tennis Junior Program is for kids ages 5-16. Sessions run Monday through Friday from 9am - 4pm (full day) or 9am - 12pm (half day). Each day, kids participate in drills that improve their tennis strokes, develop good footwork, and teach smart game play strategy. Kids also get the chance to engage in healthy competition throughout the program, with most sessions culminating in an inter-club tournament on Friday.
For full day students, lunch is provided (pizza, grinders, or burgers) in the outdoor patio and gazebo area. When kids finish eating, they can take a refreshing dip in the pool before returning to more tennis instruction.

High Performance Tennis Program
Lyme Shores offers a High Performance Tennis Program for select elite high school and USTA nationally-ranked players. The program runs Monday through Friday from 12:30 to 4pm.
The main focus of the High Performance program is competition, with an emphasis on mental toughness, shot selection, strategy, fitness, training routines, and practice. Instruction is also geared toward improving students’ weaknesses. Practice matches are a major part of the daily routine. Travel matches are played weekly and participation in USTA/NE matches occurs when possible.

ECAD Summer Camp
If you like dogs and training dogs, then consider spending the summer with ECAD, Educated Canines Assisting with Disabilities. ECAD's summer camp, 149 Newfield Road, Torrington CT is a unique opportunity fo kids ages 9 - 13 to learn about the responsibilities of being a dog owner by educating ECAD's future assistance dogs. Camp starts June 24, 2013. Registration opens April 1, 2013. Daily activiities include Group Challenge Course, Picnics, Arts and Crafts, Adventure Scavenger Hunt, Games with dogs, Hiking and more. Newington Children's Theater Company
Get in the ACT this Summer with NCTC!
The Newington Children’s Theatre has opened enrollment for their Summer Theatre Arts Programs. Their four-week (June 24-July 21), full day program (9:00am-4:00pm) for kids, ages 8-15, gives participants the opportunity to learn and strengthen their musical theatre skills by working with acting, dance and music instructors in preparation for a fully-staged production of the Roald Dahl classic, Willy Wonka, with public performances July 18-21, 2013. Cost: $995. A deposit of $400 is required to hold your child’s spot. With the extended school year for many districts, auditions for the show will be held day four of the program.
Not quite 8 years old? NCTC is offering a two-week half-day program for kids, ages 5-8 running July 8-July 21. Participants will learn basic musical theatre skills in preparation to become part of the ensemble in the full-day program’s production of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka. Cost: $200. A deposit of $100 is required to hold your child’s spot.
This summer, NCTC is also offering a two-week full-day program, running July 22-August 4. A truncated version of NCTC’s four-week program, kids, ages 8-15, will work with acting, dance and music instructors in preparation for a fully-produced one-act musical, Disney's Sleeping Beauty. Who is Hand in Hand for? Rising 3rd-6th graders with communication spectrum disorders, including but not exclusive to; high-functioning autism, Asperger’s syndrome, ADD/ADHD, and sensory motor integration challenges. What is Hand in Hand? Hand in Hand is a part of O-la-mi, the Stamford JCC’s Summer Day Program, and includes a daily combination of therapeutic social skills provided by local clinicians from the Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut, and an inclusion program to reinforce what was learned and encourage social connections with their O-la-mi peers.
Hand in Hand children participate with their O-la-mi friends at Morning Flagpole, Picnic Lunch, Afternoon Electives, Afternoon Flagpole, and Wednesday Trips. All children are encouraged to participate in activities, but individualized care is part of the Hand in Hand experience. Look for small businesses in your area that have vehicles such as delivery vans. There will be some initial investment in supplies. Be certain to check the prices for such services in your area and set your rates to be competetive. Do a great job, give good value, be enthusiastic and professional, and your reputation will get around.
Deliveries
Do you have a bike? Consider making deliveries for local buiinesses. You could be an inexpensive alternative to other delivery serivces. Check prices and give affordable rates.
1. Start with a business plan. Help your child develop a realistic plan that will include such items as the type of job/business they would like to do, the current need for that service in your area, any necessary tools or equipment, any initial investment, any special training or certification, and a realistic earnings goal. Help them check their progress periodically.
2. Check with local authorities regarding any applicable laws or regulations.
3. Safety, safety, safety! If any tools or appliances are involved, make certain that your child is fully trained on the proper use and safety procedures, and is fully equipped with any necessary safety equipment sucn as eye and ear protection. Also be certain that your child can contact you when necessary for any emergency or just questions.
4. Keep it their project. Provide encouragement, assistance, and help with things such as transportation, but limit your involvement. Remember that while the summer job money might be an important goal, the life lessons of self-reliance, dependability, achievement, business skills, and hard work are far more important and will last a lot longer than the money earned.

Connecticut Children's Medical Center
Saint Francis Hospital Junior Volunteer Program
High School students between the ages of 15 and 17 and college students can volunteer during the academic year or the summer. A minimum commitment of one four - hour shift each week is required. We require students to volunteer for at least 40 hours during the school year and 50 hours during the summer. During the summer a volunteer must commit to being here at least 6 out of the 8 weeks to reach the 50 hours. These guidelines ensure that this will be a win-win experience for the students and the hospital staff.

Our friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful volunteers become the face of the museum. They sell tickets, direct visitors, seat theater-goers, assist in the Museum Shop, in the Auerbach Art Library and offer a host of other talents. Hartford Hospital
You can serve in many ways! There are over 200 positions available to volunteers throughout the hospital. The majority of these positions have their hours restricted to weekdays, 8am to 5pm, although some evening and weekend positions are available.
Volunteer Requirements: Age: Volunteers are required, by regulations, to be a minimum of 14 years of age. Some departments have other age requirements - for example, Patient Care units, the Child Care Center, and the Auxiliary Store require volunteers to be at least 16 years old.

Every day, dozens of community members of all ages donate their time and talents to support Hospital of Central Connecticut patients, visitors and staff. Whether filing in our administrative offices, transporting patients around the hospital or keeping family members in our waiting rooms company, our volunteers help the hospital provide outstanding care with efficiency and compassion.
Johnson Memorial Hospital
Who can volunteer at JMH? You need to be 14 years old to volunteer. We ask that you are dependable and able to make a commitment of a minimum of 100 hours. Volunteers average three to four hours of service per week.
When can you volunteer? We have volunteers on duty in different departments from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. The time that you would volunteer would depend on your availability and what hours are available in the department that you choose. We do have after school and weekend openings in some departments.
Why volunteer? JMH volunteers come here for many different reasons. They enjoy the personal satisfaction of helping others. Also, they are interested in gaining insight into the world of health care.
We provide uniforms, free and convenient parking, meals for volunteers who volunteer at least three hours and other benefits such as annual recognition dinners and educational opportunities.

Bristol Hospital
The Junior Volunteer Program offers two programs:
1.The Academic Year Program is coordinated with high school students, making it possible for them to gain valuable experience in the hospital setting. The Junior Volunteers report to the hospital after school and work until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. 2.The Summer Junior Volunteer Program is designed to provide the Junior Volunteers with a meaningful experience and to explore different careers in healthcare. The Junior Volunteers work from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Junior Volunteers are assigned to work in most departments within the hospital. The program provides invaluable experience for young adults.
