" As Governor, it has been my privilege for the past nine years to introduce initiatives and programs to make
Connecticut a place of world-class opportunity and hope.
Whether teaching a child to read or teaching an adult new job skills, I believe the role of government is to invest in its people. Good jobs. The best education. New technologies.
Strategies to promote economic growth, to revitalize cities, and to make our schools and colleges the best in the world all have as their goal the creation of boundless opportunity.
One of government’s most important missions is to pursue programs which enhance the unique quality of life we enjoy in Connecticut. I am very proud of our programs to preserve open space and farmlands, to make public investments in the arts, and to transform our public colleges into first-class centers of higher learning.
The education programs we have pursued are realizing great results – increased enrollments, higher test scores, and the best students, developing ideas that will shape Connecticut for generations to come."
