Jodi Rell Governor Rell: 28 Communities to Share $640,000 in Stimulus Grants for Public Safety Funds Will Help Local Governments Upgrade Communications, Purchase Safety Gear, Support Special Patrols The state has awarded $640,000 in federal stimulus grants to 28 communities – both large and small – for public safety and crime prevention needs, Governor M. Jodi Rell announced today. The Governor said the funds are Justice Assistance Grants that the state received through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). All 169 municipalities are eligible for the grants and, to date, 150 cities and towns have received nearly $4 million in six rounds of grant awards. “Police departments across state are putting these stimulus dollars to good use. Whether it is the purchase of new safety equipment, patrol cars or money for overtime, departments have identified their specific needs and are getting the funds they need to protect their citizens,” Governor Rell said.
