Statement of Governor Rell on

Delay in Execution of Michael Ross

Governor M. Jodi Rell today issued the following statement on the delay of execution sought by T.R. Paulding, the attorney for Michael Ross:

“This has been an excruciating ordeal for a lot of people, particularly the families of the victims. I can only imagine the emotional rollercoaster it has been over the last week for these families. My heart goes out to them.

“As trying as these many delays have been, they show that our judicial system has a process that works to protect all interests.

“My position on this issue is unchanged:  I believe there are crimes and actions which are so repugnant to society as to warrant the death penalty. The crimes of Michael Ross are such crimes. He alone is responsible for their consequences. When the process of the competency hearing is complete, assuming he is found competent and there are no further legal impediments, the state should move forward with his execution.”
