Residents
 
New  U.S. Small Business Administration has approved low-interest loans to be made available to the victims of the April 26 fire that destroyed the 120-unit Peachtree Garden Apartments in Norwich. The public can receive applications and additional information from the Small Business Administration by calling SBA’s customer service center at 1-800-659-2955 daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., or visit the Web site at http://www.sba.gov/services/financialassistance/sbaloantopics/index.html.
 
Residents who lost their homes in Saturday’s Peachtree Apartments fire should contact the Norwich Human Services office for help in getting new housing as well as assistance in replacing prescription medications, drivers’ licenses, Social Security cards and other identification. The office at 80 Broadway opens at 8:30 a.m. and can be reached at 823-3778.
 
The Red Cross will open a center for the families affected by the Peachtree Apartments fire today, Monday, April 28, at its office at 200 Boston Post Road, Waterford.
 
 
Veterans
 
Veterans impacted by the fire are encouraged to visit or contact the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) Norwich Assistance Office located in City Hall, Room 305 at 100 Broadway or call (860) 887-9162.  Veterans temporarily living outside of the Norwich area can also call DVA’s toll-free Veterans Information Line at 1-866-928-8387 to receive assistance.
 
Soldiers' Sailors' and Marines' Fund is also offering assistance. Call (860) 296-0719 or toll free at 1-800-491-4941.
